HOW THE FILM WAS MADE
When I left film school I got a job as a runner on a low budget film called ‘Dummy’ (The star of which is now in Hollywood making films with Nic Cage). Whilst working on it I realised that I really didn’t need much money to make a feature all I had to do was keep my locations to a minimum and use as few actors as possible. I came up with the idea of setting 90% of the film in a flat and having only two actors.
The casting process for the film couldn’t have been any easier. My girlfriend at the time was my leading lady, (I’d written it with her in mind) and I’d already met Kieron at an audition for a horror film, which I never made. Then it was a case of getting Kieron’s best mate in to play Jonathan, along with some of his fellow drama school friends.
We had a budget of £100, which I’d got from friends at family. My locations were my mates flat and my folks house. I had my camera (I’d got it for my birthday, along with a tripod) and in just four days we managed to shoot the whole film.
The end product was a film I couldn’t be more proud of. ‘Swimming in circles’ premiered in March 2009 and the night of the screening I received funding for Billboard.
